I'm a quarter century old!

Today I turned 25.  It's crazy to think I've been blogging for over a year, but it's true. Last year, this was the breakfast I was woken up to...             click to see more http://lavasquared.blogspot.com/2010/05/lisas-24th-birthday.html
I knew last years would be hard to beat, so I wasn't expecting much. But this is what I got...
Now it looks like Dave might've gotten a little lazy, but this made me so happy!  I love maple bars.  They are sold everywhere in Fresno, but I haven't found anywhere here in San Antonio that has them.  Everytime I go home I insist on getting some, they are so delicious.  So last week when we were in Fresno, Dave bought a few extras and with my mom's help hid them to bring them home for my birthday breakfast.  So they put them in a ziploc bag and into our carryon.  They probably melted various times and were squished for at least 36 hours before they were served.  They were a little stale and we had to scrape the insides of the bag out to get out all the maple topping.  I put all the maple I could onto one donut and it tasted delicious!!

I took the day off of work.  My one wish was a pool day so Dave got off a little early and we took our rafts out and had a great pool day with some friends.  Then he made me some delicious chili cheese fries for dinner and we went out for ice cream.  It was a great day!

Cari Sue's Wedding

I love seeing all my friends get married, it's wonderful.  I just wish we all lived a little closer together.  This past weekend Cari Sue got married in St. George.  It was a beautiful wedding and it was great to see all my old roommates and their little growing families.

We're still alive!!!

These interesting bilboards were up around town.  I looked up the website out of curiousity and it was interesting how they took the same verses in the New Testament and interpreted them quite differently than I had thought of them.  It made me so grateful to have a living prophet today who receives continuous revelation from God for us.  There are so many interpretations and ideas out there.

"Brothers and sisters, the exact time of the Second Coming is known only to the Father (see Matt. 24:36). There are, however, signs that scriptural prophecy relating to that tumultuous day is being fulfilled. Jesus cautioned several times that prior to His Second Coming, “many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many” (Matt. 24:11). As Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is our duty to be watchmen on the tower, warning Church members to beware of false prophets and false teachers who lie in wait to ensnare and destroy faith and testimony. Today we warn you that there are false prophets and false teachers arising"

'Beware of False Prophets and False Teachers' by M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Not that I really believed anything would happen, but we were grateful because we happened to be driving down the Las Vegas strip at the exact hour that that crazy man predicted the Second Coming would start.  (That would not have been a good place to be!)  Hearing the stories of the crazy things that happened as a result of this man's false teachings (people killing themselves and their children in fear of that day) just broke my heart.  I"m so grateful for the gospel and the knowledge and peace it brings!

March of Dimes

We went this weekend to walk the March of Dimes here in San Antonio.  Through work, Dave got some great Farmers shirts for it. The Farmers van was there giving away snow cones, so Dave saw some great marketing ideas. The coolest part for me was that the walk was through Sea World, I was dying to go check out the park!

We successfully completed the 5K walk and loved the scenery around us.  (We didn't know that there was also a run, we wish we had done that instead, maybe next time though) We're now debating getting passes there, it looks pretty fun.  The big reason for me is that Rachel told me about the trick-or-treating that they have there at the park for Halloween and other holiday celebrations and I really miss being able to go trick-or-treating.

The Best Anniversary Ever!

Our anniversary was on Sunday, but we decided to celebrate it the whole weekend.

I came home from a church thing around 10:45 on Friday night. It was pretty windy and as I was walking towards our building I noticed this red streamer fly right past me. I looked up and saw our front door all decorated. The top latch was locked so I eagerly awaited David to open the front door so I could see what he was up to.

There were streamers on the fan and tons of red, orange and yellow balloons all over the floor.  I gave him a huge hug and kiss, a very quick one though because his lips tasted like balloon.  Also, his poor thumbs had indentions in the side from tying all the balloons.  He's so great!

Then I walked into the living and noticed that our kitchen table wasn't there and the house smelled like wood.  Dave had gotten a board from Home Depot and made us a homemade ping-pong table.  It was so cool.  We used to play ping-pong all the time when we were dating.  It works great, a little smaller than a regulation table, but it'll make us better in the long run.  We store it behind our dresser, against the wall in our bedroom and can't wait to bring it out on the weekends or when company comes.  We're gonna paint it someday.
On Saturday we took our new tubes and went up to New Braunfels to float the Comal River again.  Of course we stopped at Sonic for Happy Hour and got some big slushies.  We had to hold them way up over our heads during the chutes so they wouldn't get river water in them.  We had a nice relaxing afternoon tied together, floating down the river.   Then Dave made us enchiladas for dinner and I made us an ice cream pie for dessert.  Yum!
I surprised David on Sunday with breakfast in bed, some delicious donuts. Then for our mid-AM snack we opened the top layer of our wedding cake. He just couldn't wait!

On my mission many Hispanics did what they call a 'mordida'.  When you're sitting in front of your birthday cake everyone starts chanting, "Mordida, mordida"  Then someone pushes your face into the cake.  It wasn't a birthday celebration without it.  I managed to make it my whole mission without one.  But I'll do anything with David, plus, he was so nice when he carefully fed me wedding cake at our wedding reception, I owed him one.
(PS, don't believe him, he knew exactly what he was doing...it was his idea)

What a great 365 days!
